Chesterfield College Football Club (CCFC) Ben marsh

My work placement

As coaching is an area in which i want to gain a career i based my work placement in an area where i could see myself working in the future. I am currently on my placement at chesterfield college helping out with the football. This involves, coaching, admin work and raising the profile of chesterfield college foootball club.

Chesterfield college football club

Chesterfield college offers a football team to any student that is enrolled at the college.Students are brought together through the team and get the oppotunity to get involved in sport and meet new people off of different courses bringing together various students. The aim of having the football team for the college is to be able to get students involved in sport and get them doing something active. A core value that chesterfield college has set out is " Putting the learner at the centre of our activities by meeting their needs and developing their potential" (Chesterfield college, 2011) this core value is partly fulfilled by offering sports teams such as football as it allows students to reach their potential in sport and meets there needs of them having somewhere to play and also having the equipment to get involved in sport.

Aims of CCFC

The aim of chesterfield college football club is to develop young students and help them reach there potential as footballers, striving to give them the best oppotunity possible in the sport.

Also giving oppotunitys for students of all levels to get involved in football.

"An aim is where the business wants to go in the future, its goals. It is a statement of purpose" (Tutor2u, 2011)

Objectives of CCFC

The objective of the college football team is to progress the football side to the highest leagues it can go and develop the side to be known nationally as one of the best

The vision that CCFC has follows the vision statement that the college has provided...
"Our vision is that by 2015 we will become recognised nationally as an outstanding college by learners, employers, partners, regulators and the people who work for us". As a football club they want to be recognised nationally for being outstanding at achieving students potential and being a great team to play for. Vision statements are good for the college to have as they give a vision for people looking at the college, but also a vision for staff and students to follow. It gives them a purpose to work towards to, and also an indication as to how to behave as a student or member of staff of the college. "By crafting a clear mission statement and vision statement, you can powerfully communicate your intentions and motivate your team or organization to realize an attractive and inspiring common vision of the future." (Mind tools, 2010)

The mission statement of chesterfield college is ...

"Equipping you with the skills and knowledge for progression and employment." (chesterfield college, 2011)

Mission statements become an important part of a business as they give the organisation a purpose, and give owners and staff motivation to achieve goals set by the orginisation. The mission statement set by chestefield college  for my placement is set to motivate the coaches in the football club to strive to do their best and progress as employees.

"a mission statement is potentially an invaluable tool for formulating and implementing an orginizations strategy" ( Mark C, Baetz, Christopher, K, Bart, developing mission statements that work, 1999)

I feel that mission statements are one of the most powerful tools in outlining what an organisation may want from its employees and is a great technique in getting across what is expected of its employees. I believe that having a mission statement would give an orginisation a much better chance to succeed and do well.

  1. I think that the mission statement for Chesterfield College is very clear and to the point. I think that it’s something that Thornbridge Outdoors, the company where I‘m doing my work placement at, could learn from. This is as this company currently doesn’t have a mission statement and that is something that they should have. According to Mullins, 2010, a mission statement:
‘sets an organisation’s purpose, guiding values and principles and the ways in which it intends to achieve its objectives, while recognising the interests of other stakeholders.’
